PIDB In-Person Meeting—Register Now!

On Monday, June 24, 2024 the Public Interest Declassification Board will hold its first public meeting of 2024 at the National Archives and Records Administration. The meeting will be held in the McGowan Theater of the National Archives Museum at 701 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20408 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. 

The meeting will include presentations from the Department of State and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) on projects using artificial intelligence (AI) applications for modernizing declassification and FOIA processing.

At the meeting, Timothy Kootz, Director of the Office of Information Programs and Services in the Bureau of Administration at the State Department, will deliver a presentation outlining the agency’s use of AI for the declassification review of cables and a pilot project to process FOIA requests. 

John D. Smith, OSD Federal Records Officer and Chief of the Washington Headquarters Services, Executive Services Directorate, Records & Declassification Division and Dr. Michael Brundage, Research Associate Engineer at the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), will discuss the progress in declassification modernization projects.
