FOIA Advisory Committee to Hold Public Meeting Online, May 1

The FOIA Advisory Committee will hold a virtual meeting, online and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2020. The agenda for this public meeting will focus on the Committee’s report and draft recommendations from its Vision Subcommittee and Time/Volume Subcommittee, including four recommendations that the Committee agreed to “in spirit” at its previous meeting on March 5, 2020.

ISOO strongly supports the initiatives of the FOIA Advisory Committee to advance “crucial steps towards bringing FOIA into the 21st century.”  The Committee’s work and draft recommendations align with findings from ISOO’s 2018 Annual Report that stated: “The Government has not invested in the technologies needed to support electronic information management and information security.” ISOO’s report emphasized the need for “new policies and practices that reflect and support the way the Government actually operates in the 21st century.”

The FOIA Advisory Committee meeting on May 1 will continue this important discussion of how Federal agencies will implement technologies to improve the management, review, and public accessibility of Government information. Staff from ISOO are looking forward to participating and hearing from the Committee and all stakeholders.

To join the virtual meeting, all participants must register with NARA’s Office of Government Information Services by midnight April 28, 2020. You will receive instructions via email for accessing the meeting.
